The current revolution in technology is changing the way both producers and audiences think of film and the film experience in a number of different ways. One of these changes can be seen in item 1, through the way Netflix has made the process of accessing films considerably simpler to its members. The convenience of being able to get hold of the films attracted more than 11 million subscribers to Netflix in the US as it allows films to be streamed, or delivered straight to their homes which would appeal to those with a busy lifestyle giving them time to enjoy films. This system gives the film industry a huge boost as more people will be watching films and the membership fee may intise those who would previously purchase pirated DVD's. The film audience see this as a huge benefit and the film producers still make money from it. In 2009, Netflix and Sony made it avaliable for PlayStation3 owners to use their games console to stream these movies which opened the market up to a wider audience. The decision to carry this out could have been based through market research and finding an even simpler way for people to take advantage of the Netflix service. Changes in technology made this possible and made it able to improve the service provided to hopefully get more members. Producers of films also want more people to use sites like netflix instead of resorting to piracy and illegal streaming online as it allows them to still make money from the films, and without a development in technology this would not be possible but also questions and challenges for a futher development in technology to be discovered and to improve the way we watch films even more.
When one producer has successful used 3D elements in a film it encourages other producers to explore the new technology and creates a sense of competition in the film industry. Producers are constantly trying to find a new technology to use and to stand out from the other films on the market. Item 2 refers to the success of the 3D elements used in James Cameron's 'Avatar' and how this technology helped to maintain a large gross profit from the film, it has inspired others to use and develop this technology in order to compete with this. It is shown that at the Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas, this discovery of making such success with 3D has inspired the initial launch of 3D technology within television. The fact that the 3D will be experienced in the viewers own homes makes a huge impact on the way the audience will feel about the film experience and how the development of the technology has impacted the way viewers feel about a certain film
